Trauma from occlusion has been defined as injury to the periodontium resulting from occlusal forces that exceeds the adaptive capacity of the attachment apparatus. Several schools of thought lead to the controversy as to whether it is an etiological factor or cofactor for occurence of periodontal disease. As the author's of the book we have tried to clear this dilemma along with elaboration of etiology, pathology,signs/symptoms and also explanation as to whether or not to use occlusal adjustment as a component of periodontal therapy.
