The world is largely dependent on fossil fuels for its energy demand. However, fossil fuels are depleting at a faster rate. They are turning out to be unaffordable due to its limited resources and their huge demand. Above all, fossil fuels are highly polluting the mother earth. Thus, the need of the hour is to look for an alternate energy source which can cover up limitations of fossil fuels. Research on biomass emphasis that biomass can effectively substitute fossil fuels. There are many routes for recovering energy from biomass. Apropos, hydrogen is believed to be the fuel for the next generation. Realising the importance of biomass and hydrogen energy, this work focuses on generating hydrogen from biomass by combining slow pyrolysis and steam gasification processes.

Prakash Parthasarathy is a Chemical Engineer having done his Ph.D in 'Combined pyrolysis and gasification of biomass'. His research interest includes pyrolysis/gasification of biomass & fossil fuels, hydrogen generation from biomass and energy from waste. He has published 2 books, 1 book chapter and 11 international journals.
