Functional appliance aims to encourage or redirect the growth of the jaws in a more favorable direction. Several functional appliances have been presented in the literature for the correction of Skeletal malrelations. The major difference in the effects of various functional appliances lies in the method of force application, philosophies, fabrication, construction bite and hours of wearing of the appliance. Twin block was invented by Dr. William Clark in 1978 has gained widespread popularity from its inception and till now considered as most popular removable functional appliance. The basic advantages of Twin block appliance include aesthetics, minimal functional interference, minimal speech disturbances, and comfort to list some of them. One of the reasons for it being popular over other appliances is its two-piece design which comfortably allows the patient to perform the normal function without disturbance. This book provides details of the history of development of functional appliances and twin block, the review of literature, construction and management of the patient undergoing the twin block functional appliance therapy.
