Knowledge of growth and development is essential in diagnosis and treatment planning for practicing successful orthodontics.The biology of sutures response to growth factors, hence plays a very important role in understanding the normal development, makes it possible to apply this knowledge in orthodontic practice. The growth of synchondrosis through appearing to be remote from orthodontics primary concern speciality influence the height and depth of upper face as well as special position of upper teeth during orthodontic treatment.Hence a proper understanding of anatomy, physiology and histology of bones,sutures and synchondroses is essentially required for an orthodontics practitioner.
