Periodontal microsurgery is defined as refinement in existing basic surgical techniques that are made possible by the use of the surgical microscope and subsequent improved visual acuity. The effect of periodontal microsurgery may include more predictable therapeutic results, less invasive procedures with reduced patient discomfort, improved cosmetic results and greater patient acceptance. Dentistry of tomorrow will see increasing use of magnification in all areas of practice, including periodontics. Microsurgery is a treatment philosophy whose clinical horizons will continue to improve with operator experience, thus, achieving precise results with this technique seems a reality.
