Bioactive peptides possessed, besides their nutritional value, a physiological hormone-like effect in humans. They exert various biological roles. They can be produced from food proteins upon hydrolysis by using enzymatic or chemical methods to exert different functions. Pure peptide or well-defined peptides mixture had several therapeutic potential for curing or prevention of disease. Many of the known bioactive peptides can exert more than one of therapeutic effects (multifunctional). They may act as antihypertensive agents, opioid agonists or antagonists, immunosuppressive, antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial, anticaries and mineral carriers, bile acid binding, and cysteine protease inhibitor.
