-Algae and algal extracts have gained increasing interest in recent years because there is a need to replace synthetic chemical products. -The increasing needs for nontoxic and environmental friendly products has resulted accelerated searching for natural components and this has led to considering algae as a resource of naturally derived compounds. -Algae contain a wide range of photosynthetic pigments have high nutrition values. -In Pharmaceuticals: Beta-carotene used in food coloring as a source of Vitamin A. -In cosmetics: Algal pigments are used for adding exotic colors to soaps. Seaweeds are a source of pigments for various hair coloring products due to their long lasting properties. -Determination of total carbohydrate, phenolic, flavonoid and tannin contents was important since the antiviral activity could be related not only to the presence of carbohydrates but also with other phenolic components. -The bioactivities of microalgae compounds depend upon the type of solvent used for extraction.
