The study on the rights of community in forest was conducted in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. The participation by the community in forest protection is not a new phenomena in Uttarakhand. The country has a history of protecting and managing the forest by its traditional means and practices. There are forests act which are in implementation for forest protection as well as about the rights by the community. Despite the background the declination in the forest area has increased and communities are adhering with limited rights. The JFM do reflects about the join participation of Panchayats and forest department but their also arises a confusion in lack of clarity in roles and responsibilities. Despite the facts that the community does not have a say in entering in the forest and on the minor forest produce. Through 70% of the women are participating in the forest management activities through attending general meetings, patrolling in the regions but not as key actor in the process of decision and management of forest.
