Beschreibung

Future wireless networks must provide high data rates while limiting the energy consumption of increasingly complex radio infrastructure. This cumulative dissertation investigates energy-efficient resource allocation in massive MIMO wireless networks from both system- and hardware-level perspectives. The first part develops optimization frameworks for antenna and resource activation, user association, and base-station switch-off in heterogeneous networks. The second part addresses the physical layer, where nonlinear power-amplifier behavior limits energy efficiency in OFDM-based massive MIMO systems. Using the Energy-Efficiency-Rate (EE-R) plane as a unifying framework, the thesis shows that energy-efficient operation is governed by well-defined energy-optimal operating points rather than by simply maximizing transmit power, bandwidth, or antenna count. The results provide analytical and algorithmic foundations for energy-efficient design of future wireless networks.
