Successful root canal therapy depends on thorough chemo-mechanical debridement of pulpal tissue, dentin debris, and infective microorganisms. Root Canal Irrigants are not only important for the removal of debris and dentinal chips produced during shaping and cleaning but also are of critical importance in reducing the microbial flora of root canal to a great extent. Various factors that affect the efficacy of an irrigant solution are volume of irrigant used, concentration of irrigant, frequency of irrigation, temperature of irrigant, length and time of intracanal contact, gauze of irrigating needle, depth of penetration, diameter of prepared canal, age of irrigating solutions etc.
