Mixed dentition stage is a transition period in the development of dentition from primary to permanent between 6-12 years of age. During this period precise prediction of future dental development can be done which will help to assess whether there will be spacing or crowding in the dental arches. Timely management of any form of dental malocclusion helps to preserve the integrity of dental arches or even reduce the severity of dental malocclusions. Mixed dentition analysis plays a vital role in the early diagnosis of tooth size arch length discrepancies. It should be done before the eruption of permanent canines and premolars as it helps to assess the space required for the alignment of these teeth in the dental arches. An accurately done mixed dentition analysis helps to determine whether any preventive measures need to be taken and if yes also helps to determine whether the treatment plan will involve serial extraction, eruption guidance, space regaining or space maintenance.
