This handbook is a concise synopsis of practical aspects of Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology. It summarizes principles and procedures of most laboratory diagnostic tests performed in the microbiology laboratory. The focus is mainly on the general Bacteriology and Mycology laboratory techniques usually employed in the isolation and identification of animal pathogens. The handbook also covers the main characteristics and tests employed in the identification of specific genera and species of both bacteria and fungi associated with animal infections. It is a good handbook not only for veterinary undergraduate students, and microbiology laboratory diagnosticians but also for students of biomedical laboratory sciences.

Dr. Mahacla Odongo is a holder of MSc in Animal Microbiology from the University of Surrey, UK. Currently Dr. Odongo is lecturer of Microbiology in the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has over 30 years experience as a diagnostic microbiologist.
