Beschreibung

Sepsis is a major reason of mortality and morbidity in the traumatized patient. Sepsis following traumatic injury is associated with the injury type, together with the extent of injury and the anatomical location. Critical care nurse is responsible for close monitoring and assessment which are fundamentals for identification of early signs of sepsis and early intervention and management is important to confirm good outcome in these traumatized patients.Body mass index as an indicator of nutritional status was reported as a predictor of injury pattern and complications among critically ill injured patients. Considering the results of the present study and the available evidence, more than half of adult traumatized patients have normal body weight. Also the majority of the adult traumatized patients were having systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Also underweight traumatized adult patients showed significantly higher rate of sepsis development than those who have normal weight and obese patients. Also underweight traumatized patients were having longer length of hospital stay than normal weight and obese group.
