Pregnancy is a special physiological condition where drug treatment presents a special concern because the physiology of pregnancy affects the pharmacokinetics of medications used and certain medications can reach the fetus and cause harm. Drug Utilization Review is an authorized, structured, ongoing review of healthcare provider prescribing, pharmacist dispensing, and patient use of medication. They involve a comprehensive review of patients' prescription and medication data before, during, and after dispensing to ensure appropriate medication decision making and positive patient outcomes The primary goal of this book is to provide basic information about drug utilization in obstetrics and gynecology in primary and secondary care. Medicines use is however without risk, drug selection and prescribing is increasingly complex and demanding and undertake as part of a multi-disciplinary process that involves doctors, pharmacists, nurses and other members of health care team.
