Handgrip strength is a measure of strength of several muscles in the hand and the forearm. Handgrip strength can be quantified by measuring the amount of static force that the hand can squeeze around an instrument called as handgrip strength dynamometer. The estimation of handgrip strength and type of grip is of immense importance in determining the efficacy of different treatment strategies of hand and also in hand rehabilitation. Measurement of handgrip strength is commonly performed by physiotherapists to measure baseline deficiency in hand muscle power, to monitor progress during rehabilitation, and to document outcome after rehabilitation. The volume deals with six chapters. The first chapter introduces the readers with the importance of handgrip strength. The second chapter deals with the review of the related literature of the present volume. The third chapter deals with the materials and methods of the study. The fourth chapter deals with the tables, graphs and results of the study. The fifth chapter deals with the discussions and interpretations of the study.

Dr. Shyamal Koley is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab, India. Dr. Koley holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree and has 20 years of teaching and research experiences, with 8 books and 162 research publications in journals of national and international repute.
