Innovation has long been considered to be an important factor for creating and maintaining the competitiveness of nations and firms. In this context special attention is paid to the innovations impact on resource poor producers. Results of this comprehensive study are presented under characteristics of producers and exporters, relationships between producers and exporters as well as profitability analysis and constraints of the pineapple industry in Ghana as a case study. Furthermore, it is examined whether this innovation adopted by small and medium resource poor pineapple growers enhances their survival in the export market.

Kwamina E. Banson is an expert in Systems Design and Complexity Management. He serves as a lecturer at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences of University of Ghana. He has received numerous awards from USDA, IAEA, Washington State University, the Ghana Standard Board and from his former school as an outstanding leader.
