Desalination powered by nuclear energy is considered as one of the most promising desalination projects driven by different challenges. Small and Medium Nuclear Reactors SMRs are particularly compatible with the emerging short-term needs of large-scale desalination plants because of their relatively short construction time (3-4 year), inherent safety features, small footprint down to the scale of barge-mounted units, in addition to the option of incremental capacity according to market demand.
