Beschreibung

Multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems offer a promising solution for enhancing the capacity and the reliability of cellular mobile networks. The importance of the MU-MIMO technology becomes evident from the fact that it has been adopted as an essential part of the fourth generation mobile communication systems. This thesis focuses on developing efficient physical layer algorithms for MU-MIMO communications based on linear transmit precoding and receive processing using a hybrid optimization approach. The proposed techniques have primarily been developed for the MU-MIMO downlink but can also be applied to uplink transmission using the multiuser uplink/downlink duality principle. The performance of these hybrid schemes is generally similar or in some cases, even better than that of significantly more complex linear transmission schemes based on iterative processing. The relatively low complexity makes these hybrid schemes particularly wellsuited for practical implementation and possible adoption as part of future mobile communication technologies. The impact of erroneous channel estimates can be detrimental to the transmission performance of MU-MIMO systems, particularly in certain multistream transmission scenarios. Therefore, the presented algorithms also incorporate robustness against channel estimation errors, resulting in substantial performance improvement over non-robust schemes.
