Transportation, automobile, information technology service provider businesses are developing at rocket pace. Accordingly energy requirement for this industries is also increasing vertically. Petro-fuels are having limited reserves and can not fulfill the requirement of all. There is a need to search for alternative. Biodiesel is one of the most preferred alternative of fossil fuels. This work is a compilation of the information collected from various sources giving due credits to all. It explains the need of alternative fuels, details of biodiesel, different approaches to produce the same, feed stock available world wide for the production of Biodiesel, policies, initiatives taken by the government and private organizations in development and commercialization of biodiesel and its production scenario in different parts of the world. Dr A P Vyas has more than 20 years of experience in Industry and Academics. He has won national awards for teaching and guiding projects. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers (India). He did his Ph.D. in Studies on Biodiesel Production and published good papers. He has guided good PG projects on Biodiesel research. Also, applied for patent.
