Pedestrians are integral part of any transportation system. Every one is a pedestrian before or after using a vehicle. Pedestrian friendly environment along the roads and at the intersections is therefore necessary for pedestrian safety as well as for effective traffic operation. To know whether pedestrian friendly streets are provided or not, it is required to evaluate operating conditions of the facilities provided. This book explains the requirements of pedestrians, status, important factors, and methods of evaluating their level of Service.

Author is Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (India). He obtained his B.E.(civil), M.Tech. (civil) and Ph.D (civil) degrees from Maulana Azad Institute of Technology Bhopal. He has more than 21 years of experience in teaching, research and consultancy.
