Beschreibung

This popular book provides detailed description of the techniques used for the treatment of corrosion using migratory corrosion inhibitors. Steel corrosion problems are common in reinforced concrete structures around the world. The principle of inhibitors is to develop a thin layer, usually one or two molecules thick, on the steel surface, which inhibits corrosion either by forming a protective film on the substrate, or by immobilizing the corrosive species and preventing them from reaching the steel. Mechanism and causes of rebar corrosion have been discussed in detail. Significance of corrosion inhibitor, classification of corrosion inhibitor and some commonly used corrosion inhibitors have further been discussed in detail, as to cover treatment of corroded rebar. The electrochemical measurements such as half cell potential and linear polarization resistance on slab specimens subjected to external chloride exposure to establish its suitability as a stable indicator of rebar corrosion initiation and application of penetrating type corrosion inhibitor on concrete samples have also been discussed in this book.
