Beschreibung

This work combined reviews and research data in analyzing resource conservation & management awareness issues within the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. It chronicles problems of aquatic pollution within the region in relation to one of the most critical bio-resource of interest to the locals of the region-Artisanal Fishers. The work evaluated the perspective of fishers towards the problems that pollution occasions mainly via industrialization in the region, which affects their traditional occupation of fishing adversely. It is critical to note that oil exploration and exploitation activities is particularly implicated as the most severe pollutant source affecting Artisanal fisheries resources within the region. Based on the identified non existence of scientific index with environmental components for analyzing pollution impact on biodiversity resources of the region, this book formulated the "Akankali Biodiversity Balance (BB) conservation model" for the Niger Delta region as a scientific tool applicable in evaluating the impacts of pollutants on any biodiversity resource of interest. The index is available for empirical trials. This book is a good academic resource material.
