The dental profession has become extremely enthusiastic about the potential of lasers in clinical practice. Over all past several years, we have seen the strong emergence of lasers in the field of dentistry. In just one generation, lasers have moved out of the realm of fantasy and into everyday life. Laser compact disk players provide music in our homes, in Office laser printers and copiers have become standard, laser bar code scanners speed us through the supermarket check out etc.Lasers are not however, new to the field of dentistry. Some of the first reports on in vitro studies, date back to the late 1960s. It was not until the early 1980s however the lasers truly saw their first use in clinical practice. Ranking among the most significant laser applications are those in medicine and dentistry. Recent advances in laser technology and research into its potential have set the stage for a revolution in dental practice.

Dr. Shahnaz nabi is presently lecturer in dept of conservative dentistry and endodontics, govt dental college and hospital Srinagar, Kashmir, India. He is a postgraduate having done MDS In conservative dentistry and endodontics. He has more than 4 years of teaching and academic experience. He has more than 15 publications in indexed journals.
