There has been a steady rise in the number of patients suffering from mental disorders all over the world. Psychosis is one of the most common and debilitating illness, characterized by chronic psychotic symptoms and psycho-social impairment that attacks the most advanced functions of the human brain. Schizophrenia is a disabling condition having onset earlier in men (15-25 yrs.) than in women (25-35yrs), with a lifetime global prevalence of 1%.There are several anti- psychotic medicines in the market, but they have several side-effects. Therefore, an outgrowing research has been done in pharmacotherapy of Schizophrenia disorder but research into effective herbal treatments for Schizophrenia disorder has just started. And we found worthwhile to investigate the efficacy of Pyrus communis juice in the management of psychosis disorder. Therefore, this project was undertaken to investigate antipsychotic potential of Pear fruit in small laboratory animals because of its nutrients, minerals and vitamins.
