There is an increasing focus within the aquaculture industry, currently on control or elimination of antimicrobial use. Hence alternative processes are needed to develop and preserve a healthy microbial environment in the aquaculture systems. One such method that is gaining importance within the industry is the use of probiotic bacteria to control potential pathogens. Now a days probiotics are emerging as a promising key category of food supplement around the world. Probiotics are live microbial food supplements providing versatile health benefits. The potential effectiveness of probiotics in treating different diseases is found to be very successful and also very effective in modulation of immune systems. This book illustrates isolation and characterization of probiotic bacteria from freshwater fishes Wallago attu and Oreochromis mossambicus and evaluation of their probiotic potentiality in VANNAMEI culture ponds. This book extensively explains the importance of probiotic in aquaculture in controlling the viral and bacterial diseases in fishes and prawns.
