Perioperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is an underdiagnosed clinical entity with adverse short term as well as long term clinical outcomes. This text is intended to provide insights into the pathophysiology, risk factors and managment of perioperative AKI from an anaesthesiologist's perspective. The authors hope that this text will benefit both the practising as well as resident anaesthesiologists.
