This book offers a comprehensive overview of thyroiditis, a group of diseases that often present with similar symptoms, frequently creating a diagnostic challenge in determining the exact etiology. Thyroiditis accounts for approximately 20% of all thyroid diseases and arises from various causes, most commonly autoimmune disorders. Clinical manifestations may include symptoms of hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, with subtle variations depending on the underlying cause. A detailed clinical history and a thorough physical examination are essential for accurate diagnosis. Prof. Mahmoud Fathi Sakr is a Professor of Surgery, Head and Neck and Endocrine Surgery Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt. He obtained his MS and PhD in Surgery from Alexandria University. He completed a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Prof. Sakr is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). His primary areas of expertise include head and neck surgery and endocrine surgery. He has authored 32 national books and 19 international books, as well as five volumes in the Patient Information Series, a Manual for Clinical Practice, and 118 scientific articles in leading journals. He also serves on the editorial boards of several international journals.
