Family-centered care is recommended as best practice across a variety of pediatric service settings. However, providers in multiple healthcare fields report an ongoing struggle with the translations of family-centered care concepts into their practice. The aim of this book is to provide theoretical background and evidence needed to understand the importance of, and barriers to, family-centered care implementation into everyday work with families. Practical guidelines and solutions to this issue, based on best practices in adult learning and family-centered care, are described in detail.

Liat Gafni Lachter, an occupational therapy clinician and educator, has been working with families and their children who are dealing with diverse developmental challenges. She has been studying the roles of families and therapists in the health care of children at Boston University.
