Beschreibung

Although the debate on the safety and women's right of choice to a home delivery vs. hospital delivery continues accross the developing countries. This study was undertaken to find out the current status of use of maternal health service, the existing care seeking practices, and the various factors influence womens choice of and use of home and clinic delivery in rural areas of Bangladesh. This cross- sectional study was done in a rural Sub-district of Dinajpur district in Bangladesh. Multi-parity, five ANC visits, place of previous delivery, expenses of delivery, role of decision maker, and obstetrical complications in delivery were statistically significantly associated with prevalence of place of delivery. Poor socio-economic status, ages of mother, religious status, low education, occupation, and distances of clinic were not statistically significantly associated with choosing the place of delivery. The results suggested that mothers, who were in the low-socio-economic scale, delivered at home more frequently.
