Beschreibung

The book is a collection of 20 articles describing the recent advancements in the application of microbial technology for sustainable development of agriculture and environment. Microbes are ubiquitous and are known for their beneficial as well as harmful interactions with all kinds of flora and fauna in the universe. Microbial interactions are considered beneficial due to their key involvement in fulfilling various functional needs of plant and soil ecosystems and replacing or reducing the use of hazardous chemicals. Besides, microbes are also important in various environmental and industrial applications. The integration of biotechnological tools with microbiology have contributed enormously to the sustainable environment and agriculture. Some of the major examples include, increased resistance against biotic and abiotic stress, bio-detectors and bioremediation of polluted soil, increased productivity and quality by enhancement of nitrogen fixation and nutrient uptake as well as generation of biomass derived energy and generation of high nutrient levels in nutrient-deficient crops. Microbial Biotechnology contributes to sustainable agriculture by reducing the dependence on agro-chemicals, particularly pesticides, through the deployment of genes conferring tolerance or resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. The research domain of microbial technology and agriculture is very dynamic and it gets updated day-by-day with new developments. This book intends to bring the latest research advancements and technologies in the area of microbial technology in one platform, providing the readers an up-to-date view on the area. The book would serve as an excellent reference book for researchers and students in the agricultural, environmental and microbiology fields.
