There are few published books that deal with the capacity of digital library collections and services to bridge the digital divide. It should be noted that the particular focus of the book is on issues related to the use of the digital content and digital library services to address the research needs of academic libraries. These libraries also play an important role in meeting the teaching and learning needs of staff and students, but the issue of the digital divide is most clearly focused on matters relating to the research capacity of developing countries.It is very important to understand how libraries need to modify their collection practices and service delivery to accommodate the new modes of research and scholarly communication. In particular the book information outcomes have the potential to assist the development of strategically focused digital library collections and services aimed at reducing the digital divide.
