Internet scam is a unique variant of cybercrime that is often linked controversially to Nigeria. Previous attempts to determine the origin of such mails depended on internet protocol address tracing technique and not the linguistic features of the mails. The present study applied statistical language modelling techniques in detecting electronic scam mails that are likely to be of Nigerian origin based on linguistic cues.
