Anogeissus acuminata (Phasi) is a large deciduous tree naturally distributed on freshly deposited alluvial soils along the river 'Mahanadi' in Odisha state. Spatial distribution modelling approach has been adopted to know about the geographic distribution and prediction of potential plantation sites. The Maxent spatial distribution modelling (SDM) requires presence data of the species and environmental covariates. A number of 120 field locations of the species have been recorded throughout the study area. The selection of appropriate environmental layers was based on multicollinearity test by using cross-correlation as potential environmental predictors. The AUC value of the model is 0.769. The result of jackknife test shows that most contributing environmental factor for the conservation and growth of A. acuminata is temperature. The aim of the study was to find out the distinct difference in the growth of A. acuminata at different plantation sites in Odisha. This study busted the myth that A. acuminata can grow anywhere. The result of this study shows that improper site selection is the main reason behind the inadequate growth of the plantation.
