Beschreibung

This project is concerned with the use of previous results integrated with the new acquired data through outcrop analysis, grain size analysis, lithofacies analysis and sequence of strata. All this data used to study the Cenomanian-Turonian Merkhiyat Member of Omdurman Formation which cropps out within the Khartoum basin. The research is aimed to enhance our knowledge in terms of sedimentological studies that described six outcrops. Besides, fill the gaps which were not answered in the previous work. The data pertain for this study comprise Fifty-eight representative samples, vertical profiles and photomosaics along with laboratory data.By integrating the above, the Merkhiyat Member comprises the coarse to medium grained sandstone and much less fine grained sediments. Poorly sorted siliciclastic sediments reveal almost vertical stacking of finning upward sequences. Trough cross bedding is the dominant sedimentary structure. In addition, nine lithofacies were defined from the field data. According to these results, the depositional environment of Merkhiyat Member can be attributed to the processes of fluviatile in nature.
