Among the various environmental resources, water is one of the most important commodities which require special attention. Pollution in general and water pollution, in particular, has attracted the attention of scientific workers the world over. Toxic heavy metals in treatment of wastewaters include mercury, cadmium, and lead is in particular concern. Exposure to these heavy metal ions leads to different toxic effects in the body, including neurological, renal disturbances, liver damage, hypertension, itai-itai disease, testicular atrophy, emphysema, inhibition of enzyme activity, cell damage and etc.
