Beschreibung

A comprehensive overview covering the principles and preparation of catalysts, as well as reactor technology and applications in the field of organic synthesis, energy production, and environmental catalysis. Edited and authored by renowned and experienced scientists, this reference focuses on successful reaction procedures for applications in industry. Topics include catalyst preparation, the treatment of waste water and air, biomass and waste valorisation, hydrogen production, oil refining as well as organic synthesis in the presence of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts and continuous-flow reactions. With its practical relevance and successful methodologies, this is a valuable guide for chemists at universities working in the field of catalysis, organic synthesis, pharmaceutical or green chemistry, as well as researchers and engineers in the chemical industry.

Autorenporträt

Satoshi Horikoshi is an Associate Professor at Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, since 2011. He received his Ph.D in 1999 from Meisei University, Japan, and subsequently was a postdoctoral researcher at the Frontier Research Center for the Global Environment Science, Japan, until 2006. He then joined Sophia University as assistant professor and in 2008 moved to Tokyo University of Science as an associate professor. His research interests include applications of microwave radiation to catalytic chemistry, the effects of microwaves on nanoparticles and on photocatalysts for environmental protection, as well as microwave-assisted organic syntheses. He has co-authored over 140 scientific publications and has contributed to and/or edited 11 books. He is vice president of the Japan Society of Electromagnetic Wave Energy Applications and was a member of the board of the International Microwave Power Institute. Nick Serpone is Professor Emeritus and has been a visiting professor at University of Pavia, Italy, since 2002. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, USA, in 1968, after which he joined Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, as assistant professor in 1968. He became associate professor (1973-1980), professor (1980-1998), university research professor (1998-2004), and professor emeritus in 2000. His research interests focus on photophysics and photochemistry of semiconductor metal oxides, photochemistry of sunscreens, heterogeneous photocatalysis, environmental remediation, and microwave chemistry. He was program director at the National Science Foundation (USA) and worked as a consultant for the company 3M (USA). He is a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (Materials Sciences Division) and has published over 420 papers and 5 books.
