Modification of woolen fabrics were achieved by several methods such as grafting -cyclodextrin, -cyclodextrin derivatives(monochlorotriazinyl, -cyclodextrin) and low molecular weight deacetylated chitosan in the presence of citric acid(CA) as cross- linking agent using conventional finishing technique of pad-dry -cure at different quaternary ammonium salts concentration. The improved properties of the modified wool fabrics were evaluated using urea bisulphite solubility test ,tensile strength ,elongation and crease recovery angle. Yellowness index and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed. Dyeing properties of the modified wool fabrics were studied using acid and reactive dyes.The biocidal activity of the modified and unmodified (control) wool samples was evaluated against moth larvae and some species of bacteria (Escherichia coli G-, Staphylococcus aureu G +) and (Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus).

Prof.S.Gawish has been awarded B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering1969,M.Sc. Leather Technology 1979and Ph.D. Surfactants1980, Alexandria University. She is specialized in Textile Chemistry, National Research Centre, Cairo. Since 2005. She has been an Emeritus Professor and she has been awarded Egyptian state prizes of Academy of Science & Technology.
