The production of optically active compounds is a key issue in pharmaceuticals and chemical engineering. Several optically pure ingredients are used in various sectors of the chemical industry, such as pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, pesticides or cosmetics. The potentially harmful side effects of optical impurities require highly stereo-selective approaches, robust, economic and environmental favorable process. The separation of enantiomers using diastereomeric salt employing supercritical carbon dioxides, an anti-solvent have the potential to yield products with very low residual solvent content, faster, with high product purity. This technique is suitable for controlling product morphology, potentially enabling the consolidation of resolution and formulation into a single step, greatly simplifying downstream processing.
