Utilization of wastes in the cultivation of edible mushrooms (Pleurotus tuber-regium, Pleurotus ostreatus and Volvariella volvacea)is aimed at efficient utilization and re-integration of huge Agricultural and industrial wastes generated during farming and most post harvest processes into mushroom cultivation will dispose these materials in an environmentally friendly manner thereby reducing environmental pollution resulting from their bio-degradation. It will also help in reductions in cost of mushroom cultivation using easily affordable and locally available materials.The high quality nutrients will provide cholesterol free diets especially for the elderly and the diabetic. The mushroom biotechnology developed will economically empower the youths making them job creators rather than job seekers as seen in most developing countries. Therefore this book addressed four basic societal problems namely: environmental, social, health/ nutritional and economic. I therefore encourage every body who have contact with this book to get a copy for themselves and loved ones.

Mr Samuel Echezonachi Okere is a Lecturer in Crop Science Technology, Federal University of Technology Owerri Nigeria. He obtained B.agric.tech. in Crop Production from FUT Owerri and Msc in Mycology & Plant Pathology from University of Port Harcourt Nigeria. He is currently a PH.D student in mycology&plant pathology University of Port Harcourt.
