Mango (Mangifera indica L.) a member of family Anacardiaceae, one of the important fruit crop in Asia, since a time immemorial (Nene, 2001). Mango consists of more than thousand varieties and is cultivated in the Indian subcontinent over 4000 years ago. It is the most popular and choicest tropical fruit of India and undoubtedly one of the best fruits in the world. It occupies relatively the same position as enjoyed by apple in the temperate world. It is considered as national fruit of India and rightly known as king of fruit. Ripe mango is exceedingly refreshing and excellent source of vitamin A. The raw fruit is also used in various ways such as for making curries, pickles, chutneys, etc. Ripe mango slices and pulp can be preserved and canned for consumption during off-season. The world mango production in the year 2008 reached a level of 66281 thousand MT.
