Mathematics deals with preponderant abstract concepts and to make it understandable for children requires a special technology. This book contains strategies to design, to organize and to evaluate mathematical activities in kindergarten. There are described methods and proceedings to develop in children skills for spatial and temporal orientation, comparing, sorting, and ordering objects from the environment. These are pre-mathematical abilities, needed for future mathematics acquisitions. In the same time, it offers concrete examples to introduce numbers, figures, geometrical shapes, measurement, problem solving, logical operations with the aid of special games. For every game there are specified the purpose, the learning task, the didactic material, the rules of the game and alternatives to develop it. The teacher is stimulated to use mathematical notions in all the favorable circumstances during the daily program in kindergarten. This book is useful for both: the students who are preparing to teach in kindergarten and for the teachers who are working in preschool education.

Ioana Gabriela Marcut is a senior lecturer at the Department of Teacher Education, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania. Her research areas cover the methodology of teaching and learning mathematics in primary school and kindergarten.
