Beschreibung

This book deals with an important aspect of second language acquisition, namely pronunciation. More specifically, it compares the effect of two different types of instructional programs on young learners acquisition of English pronunciation. For this purpose, the performance of two groups of primary school learners was compared. The two groups belonged to the same age group (10 years of age), and they shared the same native language, i.e., Turkish. The results of the study show that Group B students who received instruction exclusively through the medium of English following an Immersion Program far outperformed Group A students whose exposure to English was restricted. Thus, it is suggested to syllabus designers and educational decision makers to consider Immersion Program as an effective method of language teaching to young learners as further exposure to the target language facilitates L2 acquisition, in general, and pronunciation performance, in particular.
