Beschreibung
Distraction osteogenesis has been employed in the lengthening of long bones for the last 100 years. During the last 50 years, predictable results having been developed through scientic studies by the Russian surgeon, Gevriel Ilizarov. While no controlled long-term studies exist with any of the commercially available alveolar bone devices available today, excellent case reports and animal studies exist for the distraction devices currently available. These publications demonstrate the potential for successful results with a variety of intraosseous and extraosseous distractors.
