It is one of the leading states in wheat production and a major contributory to wheat procurment for running the public distribution system in the country. Dr.Veena Goel (Professor in Economics) in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (India) did her MA in Economics in 1977 and M.Phil in 1982 from Punjabi University, Patiala (Punjab) while Ph.D in 1987 from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong (Meghalya). She has a long teaching and research experience of about 35 years.
