The issue of secularism in Europe has long been a controversial and thorny issues. The debate is as colourful as are the emotions that are often on display in debates about the subject matter. This book seeks to take a look at recent developments from a European Human Rights Legislation perspective in the hope of shedding better light on the developing legalistic trend as well as coming closer to a proper definition of the term secularism. In particular it closely examines the Lautsi case and the surrounding controversy. Also closely studied is the case of the Republic of Malta, a country traditionally associated with Catholicism but which in recent times has seen a raging debate about the subject matter. This book should be of interest to legal scholars, law students and anyone with a keen interest in the subject including religious campaigners, secularist campaigners and politicians.
Autorenporträt
Dr. Angelo Micallef graduated as a lawyer at the University of Malta in November 2011 and obtained his warrant to practice law in Malta in February 2012. Micallef is also a politician and a journalist having displayed a keen interest in law, politics and the media from a very young age. A regular contributor in the press, he is active in politics.
