Beschreibung
Scrap tires continue to be a nuisance to the environment and this book proposes one way of recycling them as a lightweight aggregate which can substitute for mineral aggregates in concrete. Aggregates derived from scrap tires are often referred to as Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA). This book covers the design of concrete with TDA, its properties both at macro and microscopic scale and how it can be modeled based on finite element method using ABAQUS software. The concrete behavior after exposure to high temperature is also examined. The book provides a clear understanding on the quantity and quality of rubber that can be used in concrete and how the properties of concrete change. The pros and cons of using TDA in concrete are explored; ways of overcoming the shortcomings suggested and a way of predicting concrete properties when using TDA is provided. The book would be very useful to engineers and researchers who are interested in new civil engineering materials and concrete in general and to the regulators who are involved in approving new materials for construction.
