Selvedges constitute an important aspect of a woven fabric, because apart from providing strong edges they provide sales appeal even when they are not ornamental. The selvedges keep the fabric from unraveling or fraying. The selvedges are a result of how the fabric is created. There are number of selvedge forming devices on various shuttleless machine provided by machine manufacturer with unique features. Most of the mechanism are mechanical and electro-mechanical.
