Biosystems Engineering can be defined as the engineering discipline related to the overall agricultural activity, such as production, processing, storage and distribution of agricultural (food and non-food) products (e.g. structures, equipment and machines for crop and animal production, livestock buildings, environmental control for animal health and welfare, structures, machines and plants for agricultural, forestry and food production, post harvest technology, process engineering, ergonomics and safety, safe food production), the protection of the natural environment and the preservation of the natural resources (e.g. land planning, soil conservation, rational water management, air pollution control, waste management, preservation of natural habitats).This book discusses the application of the mechatronics to the biosystems of agricultural production, precision agriculture, precision livestock, precision beekeeping, protected agriculture, agriculture automation, agricultural robotics.
