This user-friendly book is of relevance to students pursuing undergraduate course in mining and mineral processing engineering when selecting mining equipment, which is a function of mine plan. Proper choice of mining equipment is critical for technological, economical and safety criteria that must be satisfied during mining and material handling; which rely mainly on mobile drill rigs, hydraulic shovels, front-end loaders, scrapers and haul trucks to extract ore and initiate ore processing. Large mining operations require larger equipment capacity to maintain the mine plan while simultaneously considering mining constraints that often influence the mining operations. Besides its simplicity, the book is replete with equipment/machinery selection for both surface and underground mining activities which students, researchers and professionals should find both stimulating and useful.

Richard K Muthui and David M. Akisa are both holders of BSc (Mining & Mineral Processing Engineering) from JKUAT. Mr Muthui is presently a Teaching Assistant in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering Department - TTUC, Voi. Dr. B. K. Rop is a Petroleum Geologist and Senior Lecturer at JKUAT while Mr. M. Kabugu is a Mining Engineer at TTUC.
