In today's world, plastic has most important role in packaging industry due to its specific properties. The usage of non degradable plastic is leading to huge amount of waste every year and increasing global warming. We should promote the utilisation of natural based polymers that come from renewable resources and their products to lower down the environmental risks. This book describes the techniques to prepare biodegradable packaging films from various natural polymers. Therefore, main challenge is to compete the synthetic polymer based films in terms of their high mechanical properties, barrier properties and water resistant properties. Various methods to produce bio-plastics and bio-composites with good packaging properties have been summarised here.

Aanchal Mittal is a research scholar at the department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Jalandhar. She has pursued bachelor degree in biotechnology from Banasthali University, Rajasthan and masters degree in Chemical Engineering from NIT Jalandhar.
